How do you know if you really drink enough water

Actually, I should drink more water. Everyone knows in the meantime that it is important to drink enough water. A rule often used here is that you should drink at least 1.5 litres of water per day. But this does not always turn out to be true for everyone, Hydration expert Lawrence E. Armstrong explains why individual differences are important.

1.5 litres of water is not sufficient enough

How much water someone needs depends on person to person. Your height, movement (both sport and at work), how much and what type of food you consume and the outside temperature.

Adult women should take about 2 litres of fluid every day. This amount includes all types of drinks (fruit juice, coffee, tea) and the water that is present in solid food (watermelon, soup). Drinking water and losing weight. You consume about 20 to 30% of your total fluid intake through your diet. You should therefore drink 1.6 litres in the form of water and other drinks. Pregnant women need 1.8 litres of water and women who are breastfeeding are 2.1 litres.

3 methods to see if you are sufficiently hydrated

But how do you know if you are sufficiently hydrated? Armstrong recommends these 3 simple, scientifically based methods to investigate it yourself. Fruit water.
1. You are thirsty

When you are thirsty, this means that you are already dehydrated about 1 to 2 per cent. So get a glass of water straight away.
2. Check the colour of your urine

If your urine is pale yellow or has the colour of straw, it means that your body is freeing water and your urine is diluted; you are therefore sufficiently hydrated. If your urine has a dark colour, your body will retain moisture. That means you have to drink more. When your urine is clear every time you do a check-up, you probably drink more than you actually need.
3. Go on the scale

Weigh you for 7 days every morning when you wake up. If you have the same weight three times, that number is your basic weight. Then check your weight regularly to see if it changes. A kilo less on the scale means that you have half a litre of moisture shortage. If the above three methods indicate that you are sufficiently hydrated, then you can assume that you have effectively absorbed sufficient fluid.
