They always say you should drink a lot. But why actually? Quite simply: Your organism consists of around 70 per cent water. Without this "fuel", next to nothing would function in your body.

Naturally, the body also loses or uses water - an average of up to 3 litres a day - through sweating or urine, among other things. And that is the normal consumption, without any particular physical stress such as sport.

1.5 litres of water are used to maintain important body functions. For example, the blood regularly needs fluid in order to be able to optimally transport the nutrients to all organs. Our kidneys also have to be supplied with water on a daily basis so that they can carry out their detox activities in the body.

What happens if you drink too little water?

If you drink too little, you will not only notice it in your dry mouth or feel thirsty. Fatigue, concentration problems and a drop in performance are also possible consequences. With severe dehydration (lack of fluids) there is a risk of headaches, nausea and even confusion.

Which drinks prevent dehydration?

Water is the perfect drink to quench your thirst and keep your body hydrated. It has zero calories, costs little and is always available. Unsweetened tea is also calorie-free and a good alternative if water is too boring for you. In between, you can also use diluted juice spritzers. A glass of juice on its own, on the other hand, is more of a calorie and sugar trap - here's the proof - and not suitable for preventing dehydration.

Better to drink sparkling or non-sparkling water?

It's entirely up to you. Due to the added carbon dioxide, the water stays fresh longer and the many small bubbles help to loosen food particles from the teeth. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, prefer still water. You could quickly feel bloated from the sparkling water, even though your fluid needs are not yet met. Therefore we advise filtering your own tap water. Benchtop and Floor Standing refillable water coolers in Sydney for great health.

How much water should you drink a day?

As a rule of thumb, you should consume around 30 to 40 millilitres of water per kilogram of body weight. In other words: If you weigh 60 kilograms, your water requirement per day is on average 2.1 litres (1.8 to 2.4 litres). However, in summer and when you do a lot of sport, your fluid requirements increase additionally.

These are the consequences of drinking too little water. Many find it difficult to drink enough fluids every day. Because soft drinks, coffee and juices do not count as "water substitutes". But how do you manage to drink enough water on a regular basis - despite time stress, appointments and the like? Great tasting filtered alkaline water from the refillable water cooler in Sydney. Pimp the water in terms of taste

In the long run, there is probably nothing more boring than just drinking pure water. You can therefore help both visually and in terms of taste: Refine the water with fresh herbs or fruits, such as:

  •     fresh sprigs of mint, thyme, basil and rosemary
  •     Orange, lime or lemon slices
  •     fresh berries or a frozen berry mix
  •     Cucumber slices
  •     Cinnamon stick

Water is easy to pimp with fresh ingredients

Everything that tastes good is allowed. You can also conjure up individual ice cube creations with herbs, fruit & Co., and use them to cool your water and, of course, enhance it optically.

Product tip: You can also pimp your water with very special, sugar-free fruit and plant extracts. The startup hydrate, for example, offers delicious "extracts" in powder form. Or you can try the micro drinks from waterdrop. There is something for everyone.

Have regular reminders to drink!

"When was the last time you had a sip of water?" A kind of "drinking buddy" can regularly remind you to drink a glass of water, take a sip from your water bottle, or refill your carafe.

But you can also do it without collegial support: Free drinking apps can also regularly remind you to drink enough fluids. There are plenty of them - in the App Store and on Google Play, for example, Aqualert Water Tracker, the "water kitten" or Hydro.

Keep a to-drink list

Do you prefer it "old school" and like to tick off to-do lists? Perfect, then this tip is made for you: Instead of having an app remind you digitally, you can also keep a classic to-drink checklist. Or you just scribble 8 glasses on an old scrap sheet and then cross them out one after the other. The 8 glasses represent eight "real" glasses with 250 millilitres of water each.

It is not that difficult to meet your daily water needs. With a few small but effective changes in everyday life, getting enough water is easy, isn't it? Get started right away!

How often do I have to drink water?

If you experience severe thirst, your body is already dehydrated and you should drink something. Try to drink regularly throughout the day. Don't drink too much at once. The body quickly excretes excess fluid through the bladder.

Also, make sure that you do not drink too cold drinks when the temperature is high. As tempting as a glass full of ice cubes maybe when it's hot, ice-cold drinks can throw off your circulation when the temperature is high. Above all, the body needs more energy to warm up the cold drink to body temperature. This makes you sweat even more.
