We all know that drinking water from your alkaline floor standing water cooler Sydney is healthy. But does it also help to lose weight? And can you drink too much water?

"YOU MUST DRINK AT LEAST 1.5 LITERS OF WATER PER DAY"

Fact. With peeing, sweating and breathing we consume about 2.5 liters of water per day. That amount must, therefore, be replenished daily. With the moisture in our food, we get about a liter. The rest come from drinking. That does not have to be just water. All moisture counts, including coffee, tea, soft drinks, fruit juice or beer.

The amount of fluid you need depends on how much you exercise, your eating habits and the climate you are in. For the average Australian person, 1.5 liters of drink per day is sufficient. If you make an effort for an hour, you will need half a liter to a whole liter of extra water.

People over 65 should drink a little more, about 1.7 liters per day. In general, they eat less, so they ingest less fluid. Furthermore, the kidneys of the elderly often work less well. They, therefore, need more moisture to remove the waste products from their bodies.

You can tell from the color of your urine whether you have been drinking enough. Dark urine means too little fluid. In any case, it is important to prevent thirst as much as possible. Thirst only arises when there is a shortage of 1.5 liters of moisture and the body starts to dry out. It is better for your health to stay ahead of that situation. Signs of dehydration include fatigue, headaches, and a loss of appetite.

"BOTTLE WATER IS BETTER THAN TAP WATER"

Myth. The quality of Australian tap water is one of the best in the world. The water is purified so that the taste is as neutral as possible. This is done with the most modern techniques. For example, there has long been no use of chlorine, a substance that is still used in many other countries. That is why Australian water is so healthy and so tasty. The choice between tap or bottle is therefore simply a matter of personal preference.

Tap water is also considerably cheaper than bottled water. 1000 liters of tap water costs about $1.50. You can fill about 5000 glasses with it. Conversely, for the price of one bottle of spring or mineral water of $2 you can drink about 1500 liters of tap water. So drink more from your floor standing water cooler Sydney.

The taste of tap water can differ per region in Australia. This is partly due to the "hardness" (the amount of calcium and magnesium) in the water. Hard water is not unhealthy. In fact, calcium and magnesium are important for strong bones. That is why soft tap water is often made "harder".

Sparkling (carbonated) water is just as healthy as "flat" water (without bubbles). If you drink a lot of carbonated water in quick succession, it can cause bloating. But a healthy farmer will solve that in no time.

"SOURCE WATER IS DIFFERENT FROM MINERAL WATER"

Fact. An important difference between mineral water and spring water is that spring water must meet the same quality requirements as tap water. That means it is being purified. This does not happen with mineral water. Therefore, other requirements apply. For example, mineral water may contain more or less of certain minerals than spring water. Those minerals provide a special taste or properties. Furthermore, mineral water has to be bottled at its source, while - confusingly - well water can still be transported before it goes into the bottle. The sources of mineral and spring water must be recognized by the government.

"DRINKING WATER HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT"

Myth. There are many stories about drinking water and losing weight. Some people believe that drinking a few liters of extra water a day contributes to rapid weight loss. Others argue that you should not (or rather) drink around meals. Still, others say that drinking lukewarm or warm water speeds up digestion. However, no scientific evidence has ever been found for any of these statements. In fact, Japanese research from 2008 has shown that drinking the extra water makes no sense at all if you want to lose weight. The 1,000 women followed up for the study found no association between their body weight or waist size and the amount of water they drank. Incidentally, water does, of course, help you lose weight if you drink it instead of high-calorie drinks such as soft drinks, wine or beer.

Another beauty claim is that drinking plenty of water gives better skin. That is also a myth. Water does not moisturize the skin from the inside out, as is often claimed. A good anti-sunscreen helps much better to keep the skin young and healthy and prevent wrinkles. The minerals found in water from a floor standing water cooler Sydney is better for your skin.
